Membership runs for twelve months from the day you joined rather than from January, so your renewal date is personal to you. It is printed on the address label of your journal.
When to renew
We send a reminder a month before your membership lapses, and again a fortnight after if we have not heard. If you renew at any point in that window your new year runs on from the old expiry date, so nothing is lost by leaving it late.
How to pay
- Standing order. Much the easiest for everybody, and it means we stop sending you reminders. Most members do this.
- Card. Through the renewal form, takes a minute.
- Cheque. Still perfectly welcome. The address is inside the front cover of the journal.
- In person. At any monthly talk. Find whoever is on the desk.
Lapsed a while ago?
Just rejoin at the normal rate. There is no penalty and no awkwardness, and your old surname exchange entries are still on file. Say so on the form and we will reconnect them.
Changed address?
Please tell us, ideally before the next journal posting. Overseas returns are expensive and a returned journal usually means we lose a member by accident rather than by choice.
If you are not renewing
That is entirely fine, and we would genuinely like to know why. A line saying the talks are at an awkward time, or that you finished the research you came for, helps the committee more than silence does. Your archive access continues until your expiry date either way.
