Gift membership

A year’s membership is £15 and makes a better present than it sounds, particularly for somebody who has started asking questions about where the family came from and does not know what to do next.

What they get

  • Four journals posted to them over the year
  • Full access to the research archive rather than just the free index
  • Free entry to every monthly talk
  • A surname exchange listing, so other members researching the same families can find them
  • Two volunteer lookups in the physical archive

How it works

Fill in the gift form with their name and address and your own. We send them a card confirming the membership, and you get an email confirming it went out. If you tell us a date, we will hold the card back and post it to arrive around then.

The twelve months start from the date on the card, not from when you paid, so buying in November for Christmas does not cost them a month.

Not sure it is their thing?

Bring them to a talk instead. Guests pay £3 on the door and there is no obligation. The December open evening is designed for people who have never done any of this before, and it will tell you more than a card will.

Overseas

The rate is the same £15 including airmail postage, and about a third of our members are outside the U.K. If you are giving to somebody abroad, allow a little longer for the card.

Renewal

We write to the recipient near the end of the year, not to you, so nobody is caught by an unexpected charge. Nothing renews automatically.
